Oh my goodness! I went to this bookstore in Paris today.

It’s called “Shakespeare and Company” and it’s beautiful. It’s cramped and feels homey and books are literally overflowing from the shelves and stacked on teetering piles. You can find books on absolutely everything… and most of it is in English as well. Simply trying to find a book is an adventure in itself and even though it seems disorganized because of the haphazard placement of the books and shelves, it’s actually really intricate in that everything has its place. They even have a beautiful poetry section in this little niche off to the side. And quotes by famous authors are painted on the walls and on chalk boards. At the very top they have a piano (I’m not sure if you’re free to play it, or not) and this nook where they have old, leather-bound books, which you’re only allowed to read there — but not buy. And people stuck messages on post-its and wrote little letters and these messages cover the walls that aren’t already covered by bookshelves. And there are chess boards and children sit with their grandfathers and play a game of chess while the sun outside is burning into the concrete and for just a moment things seem so very peaceful.

Best best best day in Paris.
